The Deer Magnet™ Persimmon Tree is a grafted female American persimmon (Diospyros virginiana) specifically selected for exceptional wildlife attraction, heavy fruiting, and late-season drops. True to its name, this persimmon is one of the most powerful deer-attracting fruit trees available—so effective that bucks are known to guard these trees once fruit begins to ripen. The fruit delivers a sweet, nutty flavor that deer and wildlife seek out aggressively when other food sources are fading.

Unlike seedling persimmons, Deer Magnet™ grafted persimmons bear quickly, often producing fruit in just 2–3 years depending on care and climate. The tree produces medium-sized fruit (1.25–1.5 inches) in heavy annual crops, with fruit ripening and dropping very late in the season—October through December, depending on USDA zone. This late drop makes it an elite food-plot tree during peak hunting season and early winter when nutrition is most critical.

Grafted onto native American persimmon rootstock (Diospyros virginiana), Deer Magnet™ combines cold hardiness, disease resistance, and long-term reliability. Hardy in USDA Zones 6–9, this tree thrives in a wide range of soils and conditions. Beyond wildlife value, the fruit is also excellent for fresh eating, drying, baking, and traditional recipes, including jellies, puddings, pies, and preserves.

For landowners, hunters, and growers seeking a fast-bearing, late-dropping persimmon tree with maximum deer attraction and proven performance, the Deer Magnetâ„¢ American Persimmon Tree is unmatched.

Note on Deer Magnet Persimmon: Delayed to break dormancy

This variety leafs out late often weeks after other trees. That’s normal. It needs real warmth to wake up.

Don’t overwater.
Don’t fertilize until you see green.
Be patient, it’s not dead.

Give it time, and it’ll reward you with strong growth and sweet fruit.

*Your trees might need to be gently pruned to fit in the appropriate sized box. This will not affect the health or hinder fruit production.

Pruning Most persimmon trees require little pruning, especially once they’re bearing fruits. Pruning is usually restricted to controlling the tree’s size or removing dead, diseased, and damaged branches. Prune any suckers that develop.
Fertilization It is not recommended to fertilize trees at the time of planting or young trees. Excessive fertilizing may cause premature fruit drop. Apply a balanced slow release fertilizer after the tree is established and begins to break dormancy in spring.
Watering Newly planted trees should be watered regularly. This is the most critical step in the establishment of your new trees. Please see the Watering section under "How to plant and grow" in our Learning Center.
