The Le Conte Pear Tree (Pyrus communis × Pyrus pyrifolia ‘Le Conte’) is a proven low-chill pear variety bred for warm Southern climates, combining the durability of Asian pears with the classic flavor of European pears. Producing bell-shaped, cream-yellow fruit with soft, sweet, aromatic flesh, Le Conte is an excellent choice for fresh eating, cooking, and home orchards where traditional pears struggle.
This vigorous, upright pear tree is known for its consistent production, strong growth habit, and excellent resistance to fire blight, making it a reliable performer in hot, humid regions. Fruit ripens early—typically July through August, delivering one of the first pear harvests of the season. With a low chill requirement of just 250–300 hours, Le Conte thrives in USDA Zones 8–9, making it ideal for Florida, the Gulf Coast, and subtropical landscapes.
Le Conte requires cross-pollination for best fruit set and benefits from a compatible pear planted nearby. With proper planting and care, new trees can begin producing fruit in just 2–3 years, rewarding growers quickly. For those seeking a low-chill, fire-blight-resistant pear tree with early harvest and dependable yields, the Le Conte Pear Tree is a standout Southern classic.

| Pruning | Pear trees should be pruned annually in the winter when they are dormant. Please refer to the Pruning section under "How to plant and grow" in our Learning Center. |
| Fertilization | It is not recommended to fertilize trees at the time of planting or young trees. Excessive fertilizing may cause premature fruit drop. Apply a balanced slow release fertilizer after the tree is established and begins to break dormancy in spring. |
| Watering | Newly planted trees should be watered regularly. This is the most critical step in the establishment of your new trees. Please see the Watering section under "How to plant and grow" in our Learning Center. |
