The St. Luke’s Purple Leaf Plum is a striking ornamental tree that brings bold color and seasonal beauty to the landscape. Its deep purple foliage stands out from spring through fall, creating dramatic contrast against green-leaved trees and shrubs. In early spring, before the leaves emerge, the tree is covered in a profusion of delicate pink blossoms, making it one of the first harbingers of the season.
Though primarily planted for its ornamental value, St. Luke’s Purple Leaf Plum may produce small reddish-purple plums in late summer. These fruits are edible, though typically grown for wildlife or as an accent rather than heavy fruit production. Compact in size with a rounded canopy, it is well-suited as a specimen tree, a focal point in smaller landscapes, or for lining drives and walkways.
Low-maintenance, colorful, and versatile, the St. Luke’s Purple Leaf Plum is a standout choice for gardeners who want year-round ornamental interest.

| Pruning | Light pruning in late winter to shape; remove crossing or damaged branches |
| Fertilization | Do not fertilize at planting. Once the trees are established, fertilize in early spring (Mar-April) as growth begins. Do not fertilize in the fall, which could promote late season tender growth that can be damaged by early frosts. |
| Watering | Newly planted trees should be watered regularly. This is the most critical step in the establishment of your new trees. Please see the Watering section under "How to plant and grow" in our Learning Center. |
| Pollination | Self-pollinating; pollinators increase fruit set |
